Chicago Crush Premier Bounces Back: From Shootout Heartbreak to 7-Goal Statement Win

ROMEOVILLE, IL - The Chicago Crush brought the energy to Canlan Romeoville Ice Rink this past weekend, battling the Dells Ducks in a thrilling two-game set that had everything a hockey fan could ask for: a dramatic shootout, high-octane scoring, and standout individual performances. Though the Ducks squeaked out a shootout win Friday night, the Crush roared back on Saturday with an electrifying 7-4 victory, cementing the weekend as one to remember.

The weekend opened with a pulsating game that needed 65 minutes and a 10-round shootout to crown a victor. While the Ducks ultimately skated away with a 6-5 win, the Crush showed their grit in a relentless third-period comeback.


The Ducks held a 5-3 lead late in regulation before Caden Day notched his second goal of the night on the power play, cutting the deficit to one. Then, with under six minutes to play, Nick Zizas buried another power-play goal to tie the game at 5-5, igniting the Crush faithful.


Goaltenders Patrick Johansen and Maximilian Pierce traded clutch saves in overtime to force the shootout.

In the shootout, Crush forward Mac King scored a beauty to keep the team alive in the fourth round, but Ducks defenseman Jack Gardner  (Former Chicago Cougar) delivered the decisive goal in the 10th round to seal the win.

The Crush turned the tables Saturday night, delivering a statement win with a commanding 7-4 performance. Peter White led the charge with a dazzling hat trick, while Mac King and Caden Day racked up four points each in an offensive showcase.

The Crush controlled the tempo early, as Mac King opened the scoring in the first period. Though the Ducks stormed back in the second with three quick goals, the Crush answered with power-play markers from Peter White and Spencer Kauke, reclaiming the lead heading into the third.


From there, the Crush’s offensive floodgates opened. White completed his hat trick with two goals in the final frame, including a highlight-reel short-handed breakaway that sent hats flying. Jason Gongol added the insurance goal later in the third, while King capped his brilliant night with his fourth assist, feeding Caden Day for the dagger.
