OAK FOREST, IL - The Chicago Crush Elite squad have been turning heads all season, and at the heart of their success is a young defenseman who’s been playing like he’s got NHL scouts on speed dial. Grant “Ramsey” Paullo, the Glen Ellyn native and Crush blue-liner, has been named the Midwest Division Player of the Month for February. Let’s dive into why this honor is so well-deserved—and why Paullo is a name you’ll want to remember.

A February to Remember For Grant “Ramsey” Paullo

Paullo’s February was nothing short of spectacular. Over 10 games, he tallied two goals and four assists, showcasing his ability to impact the game at both ends of the ice. Whether he was quarterbacking the power play, breaking up odd-man rushes, or joining the rush to create scoring chances, Paullo was everywhere.

But this wasn’t just a flash in the pan. Paullo has been building toward this moment since he first joined the Crush in 2023-24. After a solid playoff run last year, he’s emerged as a full-time force in 2024-25, racking up 20 points (5 goals, 15 assists) in 38 regular-season games. His consistency and two-way play have made him an indispensable part of the Crush’s success.

The Devon Toews Comparison

Watching Paullo play, it’s hard not to draw comparisons to Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews. Like Toews, Paullo isn’t the flashiest player on the ice, but he’s always in the right place at the right time. He’s a smooth skater with elite hockey IQ, capable of shutting down opposing forwards one shift and setting up a goal the next.

Toews has become the ultimate complement to Cale Makar in Colorado, and Paullo has a similar effect on the Crush. He’s the steady, reliable presence that allows his teammates to take risks and play with confidence. Whether it’s a perfectly timed breakout pass or a crucial shot block in the defensive zone, Paullo does the little things that win games.

Coach Bushbacher Weighs In

Crush Elite Head Coach Phil Bushbacher has seen Paullo’s growth firsthand, and he couldn’t be prouder of his star defenseman.

“Grant’s growth this season has been incredible to watch,” Bushbacher said. “He’s not just a player; he’s a leader out there. His ability to read the game, make smart decisions, and elevate the play of everyone around him is something you can’t teach. He’s earned this recognition, and we’re lucky to have him anchoring our blue line.”

Playoff Performance and Nationals Outlook

Paullo’s impact goes beyond the regular season. In the playoffs, he’s been a steady presence, logging 10 games over two campaigns and chipping in a goal while playing lockdown defense. His ability to rise to the occasion in high-pressure moments has been a key factor in the Crush’s playoff success.

Now, as the Crush head to Wayne, NJ, for the USPHL Nationals Tournament, Paullo is looking to keep the momentum rolling. The road to Nationals hasn’t been easy, but with Paullo anchoring the blue line, the Crush have a legitimate shot at bringing home a national title.

What’s Next for Ramsey?

As the Crush prepare to take on the best teams in the country, all eyes will be on Paullo. Can he continue his high-level play and lead the Crush to a national title? If his performance this season is any indication, the answer is a resounding yes.

Paullo’s combination of skill, intelligence, and leadership makes him a player to watch not just at Nationals, but in the years to come. Whether he’s quarterbacking the power play, shutting down opposing forwards, or dropping a Toews-esque breakout pass, one thing’s for sure: this kid is just getting started.

Crush Fans, Buckle Up

The future is bright for Grant “Ramsey” Paullo and the Chicago Crush. As they head to Nationals, Crush fans can take pride in knowing they’ve got a rising star on their blue line—one who’s already drawing comparisons to NHL greats.

Here’s to Ramsey and the Crush as they chase glory in Wayne, NJ. The journey continues, and it’s going to be quite a ride. From the entire Chicago Crush Organization, congratulations Ramsey!
